Riosucio is a tiny city in Colombia at the foot of a mountain. At its peak, people say, the devil lives. From there, he guards the hive of activity that happens in this small town every two years, when the carnival is celebrated in his honor, an event considered of intangible cultural heritage that attracts tourists and, above all, celebration and joy. Over five days the locals celebrate the union of two communities formerly in dispute: Indians and blacks, who were the first inhabitants of these lands colonized by the Spanish who only once a year allowed them to celebrate. By mixing in the festivities the Carnaval del Diablo was born. A symbol of cultural syncretism reflecting Latin American culture: mixed races, pleasure and long waited freedom.
